This festival was created by the Robert Thirsk High School Film Club students. It grew out of our passion to make fun and interesting films and videos. It is designed to be an annual event. We welcome your feedback

TERRY COLES

Terry has been involved in the TV business since the 1970's . Some of his achievements are Vice-President, Broadcasting and President of Sega Channel. President & Chief Operating Officer of The Vista Broadcast Group

Terry served the industry on the boards of the CAB ( Vice-Chairman of the television board), the WAB (one year as President), the MAB, TvB, The Alberta Motion Picture Development Corporation, and The Banff Television Festival (Founding Director). He also was a member of the Program Committee of the CTV Televsion Network Ltd. and later a member of the Executive Group of AltaWest Television Limited, a division of CanWest Global.

Terry Coles was inducted into the CAB Hall of Fame in 2009.

KEVIN SCULLION

Kevin Scullion co-produced and starred in a national television show for children on YTV, wrote and starred in 14 episodes of “Screen Cuisine”, a segment on the show “Inside Entertainment”, hosted “Inside Movies”, a movie magazine show produced by Corus Entertainment, as well as appeared in several commercials. He was a producer on the feature Films “Downtown Dawgs” & “Gobshite/Hooligans” which was distributed in eight countries including the USA on Warmer Bros.  Kevin is Currently producing the paranormal Chiller "Dream Portal"

 

CHRIS KELLY

Chris has had a life long love of movies. They have been a passport to the world. In his teens he joined forces with two friends that enjoyed a Sunday Movie Night ritual for many, many years. He later became involved in the local theatre scene and fell in love with Irish plays. He feels very fortunate to have found a supportive and enthusiastic community that stocked his passion for acting. This passion has led Chris on many adventures, including appearing in a variety of movies including a reoccurring role on CBS's "Heartland"as a professional actor. He feels very honoured to be invited to be a part of this film festival and looks forward to experiencing the visions of the next wave of auters. Break a leg!

GEORDIE DAY

Geordie Day has written, produced and directed non-fiction content for national and international networks including Animal Planet, National Geographic, Love Nature, Cooking Channel, CBC, CTV, City, OMNI, CMT, Sportsnet, and Super Channel. Geordie  wrote and directed Living History focusing on controversial elements of Alberta's history, The Hardest Call about a Sikh firefighter working to reconcile his job with his family’s cultural traditions, Unnatural Enemies: The War on Wolves about Alberta’s shockingly inhumane wildlife policies, which recently premiered nationally on CBC's Doc Channel, and he’s just finished his first feature length film, Goalie: Life and Death in the Crease, about ex-NHL goaltender, Clint Malarchuk, whose life flew off the rails after a player’s skate cut his jugular vein and he nearly bled to death on the ice.

 

 

 

ROBERT THIRSK

In 2009 Robert Thirsk became the first Canadian astronaut to fly a long duration expedition aboard the ISS.

BRIAN VOS

Brian Vos's  credits as television producer include sports, music/variety, drama, public affairs, children’s and comedy.  One of the highlights of Brian’s career was the Calgary Olympic Winter Games as world producer for the nightly medals ceremonies, seen by over a billion people worldwide. Brian’s work has included commercial projects for Alabama Power, Western Canada Lotteries Corporation, Subway Sandwiches,Calgary Flames and Horse Racing Alberta; network identity packages for Star Choice, Family Channel, Teletoon and Movie Central; and broadcast design packages for ESPN/ABC America’s Cup, WNBA, Super Bowl at XL, College Bowl Week, Stanley Cup Playoffs, X Games and MLB Divisional Series Playoffs.

JONATHAN LOVE

Jonathan is a broadcaster and associate producer for The Calgary Eyeopener and The Homestretch on CBC Calgary.  In addition to his voiceover/production business ToonVox (www.toonvox.com), he voices and produces videos, commercials and cartoons. On screen, he has acted in on many productions including Brokeback Mountain, Open Range, Touch the Top of the World and Hell on Wheels. He is also a founding member of Calgary’s comic a cappella group, the Heebee-jeebees.

ANDY CURTS

Andy Curtis is a longtime member of Calgary’s One Yellow Rabbit Theatre ensemble, which creates original works in the Big Secret Theatre.

 

The work that continues to be created by some of Canada's most senior creation artists endeavours to foster a more civil, interesting, and stimulating society that nourishes its people, values the local and authentic, and is thoughtful, life-loving, and fun. The company also produces the annual High Performance Rodeo.   Andy has performed in lots of shows with OYR, including The Land The Animals, Dreams Of A Drunken Quaker, Dream Machine, Doing Leonard Cohen, Gilgamesh La-Z-Boy, SmashCutFreeze, Kawasaki Exit, Munich Now, What The Thunder Said, and most recently Calgary I Love You But You’re Killing Me at the 2016 High Performance Rodeo.

 

JEFF AUGUST

If you’ve watched any of the main Canadian or US networks, chances are you’ve already caught a glimpse of some of Jeff’s work.  As director, editor and designer, he hits the television industry “trifecta”. His one-of-a-kind skill set is in high demand throughout North America, and for good reason.  Jeff possesses a rare blend of creative excellence and astute technical ability, with 20 years’ experience to back it up.

Jeff has completed projects for major Canadian and US television networks;  ESPN, Fox, CBS, ABC, CBC, CTV, NBC and HBO, as well as a host of high-end advertising agencies across North America.  His work has earned him three Emmy® Awards, two gold and two silver Broadcast Design Awards, and 15 regional AMPIA Awards in the categories of “Best Director”, “Best Editor” and “Best Designer”.

MIKE FRISLEV

Michael Frislev and his partner Chad Oakes founded Nomadic Pictures in 1995. To date Mike has produced  over $500 million in movies-of-the-week, miniseries, TV series and feature films in Canada, U.S. and Europe.   Currently Mike is producer on "Hell on Wheels' & the television series FARGO. . Throughout his 20 years in the business Mike has worked with actors such as Sean Penn, James Caan, Jack Palance, Colm Meaney, Robert Downey Jr., Billy Bob Thorton, Gena Rowlands, Malcom Mc Dowell, Patrick Dempsey, and Jason Priestley to name a few.  Mike is a graduate of Ryerson University in the Motion Picture program, a multiple Emmy award winner and is on the board of directors of AMPIA.

JAY FOX

Jay Fox is the owner of TEN48 Casting. Jay listened to the requests of talent, casting directors, and clients and is dedicated to providing optimal service to all.

 

Jay and TEN48 offers a personal management style of representation. By limiting the numbers of talent to represent at TEN48  an artist is ensured that we select only those who we feel passionate about.

 

Jay Fox, has an unwavering commitment to being the best agent possible to her talent. She realizes the importance of knowledge and continues to audit acting classes, and request tips and feedback from casting directors, in order to pass this invaluable information along to her talent.

Her skills and success have been acknowledged by having several of her talent land significant roles which have awarded them ACTRA status.

 

DAN OWEN

Dan Owen is the owner of Calgary's state-of-the-art, multi-million-dollar recording studio. The Facility is used to not only record music but also movie and television scores.  The studio features a professional control room, large & small studios, recording booths and editing suite, along with guitars, microphones and other gear.

Dan has extensive experience in the recording and production business and has designed this world class studio to meet the requirements for film & television post production as well as up and coming musicians.

PAUL DAY

Paul Day has been working in television and film for the last six years. He’s worked on multiple shows in various capacities, but most recently as a full time writer for The Next Take on Superchannel, an entertaining and informative look inside the world of film and TV, and Hollywood’s Ten Best, which recalls the best cinematic moments based on the categories chosen for each episode.

Paul has a diploma in broadcasting from Mount Royal University.
